Hello Sarah-
I happened across your site when looking for information about special education and placement. I am an ECSE teacher with a reverse-inclusion classroom, like the classrooms you talk about in “Is the Least Restrictive Environment always the best?” I was wondering if I could use a quote from that post for a paper that I am doing for Portland State University, because I think that it sums up so well what we are struggling with in our system- why are we letting our children potentially fail in the name of least restrictive settings when we do have classrooms that are terrific, with trained staff for children who might struggle in a typical pre-k setting? This paper is a comparison among the different types of service models for the ECSE population; however it has been very difficult to write as there are currently no longitudinal studies regarding where children with special needs are finding the most success. Please let me know if this is possible.
Thanks,
Chiara Maltese

Oh my Sarah, as I was re-reading some of your postings, I realized that you are Carrie’s sister! The teacher that she works with, Lara, was my student teaching mentor, and I am lucky enough to see Carrie socially every few months and hear about your and your son’s journey. I didn’t make that connection right away. Thanks for letting me quote you, I’ll send you a copy of the paper as soon as it is finished!
Sincerely,
Chiara
